A Whippet collar should be durable, as these medium-sized racing dogs often exhibit considerable strength. Many Whippets are also very active and may pull forcefully on the leash, exerting pressure not only on the leash but also on the collar.
Choosing the Width:
Selecting an appropriate width and thickness for the collar is crucial. Over the past years, widths ranging from 3.5 to 5.5 cm have become popular among our customers. Within this range, you'll find a collar that offers sufficient protection for your Whippet's cervical spine without resembling a "neck brace." Our leather collars vary in thickness between 4 mm and 6 mm, depending on the collar type.
Padded vs. Unpadded Collars:
We offer collars made from pure oiled leather without additional padding. These collars are lighter and more flexible compared to their padded counterparts.
Padded leather collars provide extra comfort, especially along the edges. The lining leather slightly protrudes from the sides, creating a rounded finish that also adds a touch of color. Between the top leather and the colored lining leather, we incorporate a soft neoprene padding. All three layers are glued and stitched together.
Choosing the Hardware:
For hardware, you can choose between stainless steel and brass buckles and rings.
Collar Shape:
Most of our sighthound collars are crafted with a consistent width throughout, tapering only at the ends. This uniformly wide section covers a larger area of the neck, offering more protection for the cervical spine compared to the "fish shape." Additionally, this design makes it more challenging for "escape artists" among sighthounds to slip out of the collar.
Collar Appearance:
Beyond various leather colors, we offer collars with special top leather, such as the Python series. This top leather isn't genuine python skin but a durable synthetic print on leather.
