German Wirehaired Pointers, German Shorthaired Pointers, German Longhaired Pointers, Large Munsterlanders and Weimaraners are among the most powerful and enduring hunting dogs found in the German field.
These dogs may work throughout the day, covering considerable distances across open country, working in water as confidently as in dense cover. A collar designed for breeds of this size and strength needs to perform accordingly: substantial pulling forces, prolonged wear and long hours in demanding terrain are part of everyday working life rather than the exception.
It is precisely with these requirements in mind that we created our collection of leather collars for large hunting dogs.
Four Widths for the Right Fit and Support
Unlike smaller breeds, larger pointing dogs such as the German Shorthaired Pointer or German Wirehaired Pointer vary considerably in neck size and build depending on breed, sex and individual physique.
For this reason, our collars are available in four widths: 3 cm, 3.5 cm, 4 cm and 4.5 cm. This allows you to choose a collar with proportions that suit your individual dog — from a powerful Weimaraner to a more lightly built Large Munsterlander — without compromising on stability or comfort.
Vegetable-Tanned Oiled Leather for Demanding Use
Large hunting dogs often spend many hours at work, whether searching across open country, working in water or moving through demanding terrain.
To meet these demands, we use vegetable-tanned oiled leather selected for its combination of durability and suppleness. It remains flexible, offers natural resistance to moisture and is designed to withstand the pulling forces and friction associated with intensive training and regular days in the field.
Padded or Unpadded – Depending on How You Work
For dogs regularly handled on a long line or tracking lead, a padded collar can provide additional comfort by cushioning pressure when the dog pulls against the lead.
If you prefer a slimmer collar that sits closer to the neck — for example during everyday training — the unpadded version offers the same robust leather construction in a more streamlined form.
Both designs are created with the strength and proportions of larger hunting breeds such as the German Longhaired Pointer and Weimaraner in mind.
Handcrafted in Hamburg
Every collar is individually handcrafted in our Hamburg workshop — from cutting and preparing the leather to finishing the edges and fitting the hardware.
For a collar expected to withstand substantial forces and regular field use, this attention to craftsmanship, material selection and construction makes a genuine difference to its durability over time.
Your Choice of Hardware: Chrome, Stainless Steel or Brass
Choose from three different hardware finishes to complement your collar:
- Chrome – classic in appearance and easy to care for
- Stainless steel – highly resistant to corrosion and particularly well suited to regular use in wet conditions and water work
- Brass – substantial and warm in appearance, developing a distinctive natural patina over time
Personalised Engraving for Added Security
Collars in this collection can also be individually personalised — for example with your dog’s name and your phone number.
Should your dog range further afield while working or become separated during a day’s hunting, clearly visible contact details can help the person who finds your dog identify them and contact you quickly.
