Stalking lead in 2 cm oiled leather – brown, cognac, olive or orange
A flat strap of combination-tanned oiled leather, 4 mm thick and 2 cm wide. The leather is greased right through and feels soft from the first day; there is no breaking-in period. The collar is built into the lead: it slips over the dog's head, and you set its width with the knot. No snap hook is fitted. Four colours are available: brown, cognac, olive and orange.
- Flat profile, 2 cm wide – it lies against you and does not twist when you fold the lead away.
- 4 mm leather thickness – substantial in the hand, yet slim enough to slip into any jacket pocket.
- Adjustable collar built in – no second collar needed.
- No snap hook – no metal to glint against the light or knock as you walk.
For stalking, when things need to stay quiet and inconspicuous. If you would rather carry a round profile over the shoulder, or handle two dogs, look at the models with horn toggles.
How long is the lead?
180 to 210 cm, depending on how the collar is set – adjusting it changes the usable length with it. That is enough to carry the lead over your shoulder and handle the dog on the short end.
Which colour suits which ground?
Olive is the least conspicuous in conifer woodland and in summer green. Brown is the all-rounder and goes with classic hunting clothing. Cognac is the lightest of the leather tones and will darken most visibly with use. Orange is the signal colour for anyone who wants to see the dog in cover. These are pointers – if you are torn, write to us and we will send close-up photographs.
How do I adjust the collar?
With the knot: slide it one way and the collar tightens, the other way and it loosens. It goes on over the dog's head, and there is nothing to open. The size you set stays until you change it again.
How do I care for the oiled leather?
Treat it with leather grease. The leather is already greased through; after wet days let it dry off and re-grease it now and then. Do not dry it on a radiator.
How does this lead differ from the horn-toggle models?
This one is flat, 2 cm wide, and needs no toggle. The two sister products in round leather and in BioThane are round 7 mm profiles, optionally with two attachments for two dogs. If you want a plain lead for one dog, this is the one.
